Conscious thought is naturally a product of unconscious thought processes -- much like life is a product of chemical processes that are clearly not alive. But that doesn't mean conscious thought doesn't exist, or that life doesn't exist.https://twitter.com/anitaleirfall/status/1350581593031761920 …

Is conscious decision making deterministic then? If conscious thought is emerged from some deterministic(may or may not be computational) causal chain from some unconscious thought processes then what would possibly be an advantage of having such a mechanism created by evolution?

(I know evolution doesn't work based on what is advantageous, but this process seems too complex to occur from just randomness imo)

Enjoyed the article! Thx for sharing, this was my fave quote on primacy: “Conscious and unconscious are not separate spheres; they operate in tandem. We are not simply puppets manipulated by our unconscious thoughts... conscious reflection does have effects on our behavior.”

I wonder if it's even possible in principle for a supposedly unconscious system to state that consciousness doesn't exist. Somehow you need to be conscious of what is being considered .
