DALL-E is the kind of application that you'd expect deep learning to be able to pull off in theory (people have been building various early prototype of text-guided image generation since 2015) that becomes really magical when done at a crazy scale.

Something that is super tractable to build right now if you invest in the right dataset, and that would have a lot of practical value, would be a rendering aid for animated movies.https://twitter.com/fchollet/status/917529514397253633 …

Thinking input/output, you'd require to have people sit down and record their EEGs while you're telling them what to imagine to create the dataset?

Pretty sure that was the plot of an episode of Black Mirror. It would be a terrifying weapon spelling the end of privacy. It would also turn lucid dreamers into ruthlessly efficient deepfake machines.

Fascinating thought, but can’t imagine how to really retrieve all the perception from dreams to create the dataset. I sometimes have dreams that feel more real than real life. If any of it can be retrieved it’s a bigger breakthrough than the artificial NNs now

Wim Wenders made a movie about that. (UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD) It wasn't optimistic about the effects of being able to watch your dreams in the daytime.
