By that point, you can't isolate ML research as the source of the issues. You have to fix the entire system.

Ultimately ML will always be just one part of a bigger system. And ML research will always just be one slice of the lifecycle of that system (often the easiest and least problematic part). The problems arise when the entire system meets the real world.

I am starting to sense more realistic expectations of ML? are we going back to a philosophical renaissance to really understand what is possible with science? .. that could be good

what if fleshing out ML as far as it can really go just does not lead to artificial general intelligence? There seems to be some unquestioned assumption at work that neural nets with more tweaks are the path to a useful AGI.
