Something I worry about is that people don’t get many chances to mature and grow anymore. What we need is an environment that encourages all of us to learn. Fear is not a good teacher.
If your crusade requires you to paint as evil villains some of the kindest, most empathetic, most competent people around, there's a chance you may not be as righteous as you think. The case of Dr Fauci comes to mind, among others

That does zero to avoid polarization. No one thinks their villains are “some of the kindest, most empathetic” people around, almost by definition. That’s not how they see Fauci, just like you don’t see Trump as brave and competent, but they do.
