It also dramatically reduces carbon emissions. And the lack of commute, alone, represent a significant quality of life improvement for workers. I don't think going back to offices makes any sense.

The arguments for offices are about serendipitous collaboration and social connections. But is serendipity impossible over the Internet? Are video & text fundamentally deficient mediums to create social connections? I don't think so.

As long as you have reliable power, high bandwidth, a good computer, a home, no accent, colleagues who don't mind if you always leave the camera off, a masculine or nondescript voice, daycare or school, and a job that does not require hands-on trade work, yep, sure does.

But you work better if you are 1) a man 2) in an isolate room 3) in a house 4) with good internet connection. And most most of people just can't work remotely. So sadly it only serves a few of us IMHO.

In addition it removes the theater aspect of work and busy work. You will be measured mostly by results. Probably we will discover that a large % of our activities were useless.

Does it? I’ve seen far more comments like “why weren’t you online last name night?” since we’ve been working from home than I ever saw before. The expectation that you’re always available has shot through the roof
