Good to see France doubling down on nuclear power. Today 75% of electricity generation in France is nuclear, making it one of the greenest countries in Europe (the contrast with coal-powered Germany is especially striking)https://twitter.com/EmmanuelMacron/status/1336349111545704448 …

The future is electric, and while solar and renewables will have a big role to play, nuclear power remains the pragmatic choice to achieve our emission targetspic.twitter.com/su0SrmRSHv

how long does it take to build a typical 1GW plant as nuclear vs solar/wind. now scale it up and u will get first big reason why we cant get enough nuclear in time to save ourselves. you can start with hinkley point saga.

@elonmusk on a dare built 100Mhr/129MW battery storage in 3 months. it is easy to scale this but not nuclear.

Mechanical engineer here! I agree, nuclear power is the way to go. Many people nowadays have been misled to overestimate the applicability of batteries for large-scale energy storage. Sorry friends, it's not quite there yet

Especially in geologically-safe regions where risk of severe earthquakes is miniscule. Germany opened a new coal-powered power station this year, and also building a gas pipeline to Russia.

Natural gas is much less carbon intensive than coal. Liquidating nuclear plants in favour of coal (Germany did it after Fukushima), however, was literally a crime against nature.

Big risk of small things vs small risk of big things. I would not sleep happy if i was living close to a one nuclear station...

Greens opposition to nuclear is probably the weirdest obstacle to solving climate problem.

The generation of today's leaders will be dead before the irreversible consequences of their decisions will hit the future generations and they are talking about emission targets ... How are emission targets enough when we already know the ice caps are melting now?
