Right-wing militias and coup attempts were *much* cooler in 1970 Japan than in 2020 America.pic.twitter.com/h1aYMN2Wr5

Left wing coup attempt from 2016-2019 was far worse than what America is seeing today. In fact, there’s nothing that looks like a coup currently.

This was a weird fantasy that Mishima had and he played out the farce (he was a monarchist alright, but this was more about himself). I read this story by him years ago, and was creeped by the length and detail of the protagonist's sepuku, and then looked him up, and sure enough.pic.twitter.com/MZXAHyEfTn

.. I wasn't surprised i.e. this story made it clear that he was obsessed with a "heroic death", for which that farcical coup d'etat was a vehicle. This sort of stuff is reflected in his other writings too e.g. "Confessions of a mask" was about his own (secret) homosexuality.

I know for a fact that Hiroshima and Nagasaki will always prevent any right wing movement in Japan to be more than a manifestation of intellectual disability by a tiny fraction of individuals, who fell through the crack of the medical system.
