It could also be because far right sources are more concentrated and far left are more distributed. Like how you have only fox on the right vs cnbc msnbc abc etc.

I still think this could be the issue. Does anyone know what the distribution of # of sources by political affiliation look like? E.g. with news broadcasts, a small new right-wing broadcast would get a lot more traction vs FOX than a left-wing source vs CNN,ABC,MSNBC
Might it be because there's a plethora of sources spreading the same messages as the NYT, and fewer blogs on the right?
