The choice was between this guy or the other guy, and slightly less than half of all voters went for the other guy. How do you even begin to fix that

We need to try. We need to talk with them and try to understand why.

I've actually chatted with a fair number of Trump supporters over the past four years to try to understand how they see the world. A noticeable pattern is that they live in an alternate reality with its own set of alternative facts, and that's often sustained via Facebook

Talking to the other side is a very good start! I hope that more people practice that over the next weeks and years so that we can avoid a similar situation in 4 / 8 years from now!

I'd be interested to hear if you found a common denominator that you were able to agree on and whether there was anything that THEY convinced YOU of?

Yup, the force feed of political memes and fakery that goes on with social media in general is a huge problem. It’s not the only problem but it’s a big one. I’m willing to never look at another meme again if that’s what it takes to kill political memes.

I’d love to say that we can better educate kids to get the world out of this but that has serious latency and will do nothing for the present crop of people who’ve already been suckered. So the world needs multiple solutions.

both parties has serious ideological issues... but one of them is the only one that support the biggest attrocity of all.. the endorsing of mothers killing their own children... there is nothing more evil than that...

That's probably what they think about you, I guess. You are the one living in an alternate reality.

A big part arises from over 40+ years of a sustained campaign by fringe conservatives and religious zealots broadcast 24/7 on hate radio. I grew up with it. These folks are fully entrenched in a battle of good vs. evil. The Republican party is now host to this malignancy.

I would also argue that a big part arises from the fact that good education is insanely expensive in the US. In many western countries education is mostly completely free and everyone has kinda equal chances. In the US u have to be wealthy or lucky (scholarship)

I'm surrounded by Trump supporters. I would have to say that tribal mentality coupled with the lack of exercising critical thinking or deductive logic is the common denominator. Also, Fox being their one main source for all information has led to a common belief system.
