I think also the imagery each camp harbors about their opponents is quite different. Effeminate hipsters are supposed to cry, while brutal machos are supposed to be angry. There's some asymmetry of perception here...

Also, r/conservative is reporting plenty of nasty DMs. Whether that's actually true, I don't know. They're also reporting that people are reporting their posts as suicidal. So, it is happening. America can be a great nation, but the ultra partisanship has to change.
