In music, composition (assembling notes) is extremely similar to creative writing, while production (creating sound) is extremely similar to painting. You could say music is the combination of creative writing and painting...

Perhaps what all have in common is that they establish a series of relations; from the small scale of each note to the following, to the larger phrases in which notes occur. Likewise in painting relations exist in the micro between tone, hue, line, climbing to larger phrases.

As a painter and sometimes musician, I'd say this is an apt description. Kandinsky certainly relared abstract painting to musical composition.

The composition aspect tho kinda depends on whether you're composing like Bach or composing like Mozart lol

there’s a big architecture element in music production as well songwriting and sound design are a lot like painting mixing/engineering/mastering is all about optimizing spatial relationships across and among frequencies (20hz - 20khz+)

Only if your model for music relies on discrete hand-crafted features aka « notes ». Otherwise how would you classify a drone track modulated with a randomized envelope? Writing or painting?

I sometimes compose more like I’m painting but in general yes, the time element makes music like creative writing: what do I reveal when, when do I develop it, when do I bring it back, etc.

A melody is a temporal object in the sense that it constitutes itself only in duration. ... manifests itself in disappearing

Yes, i see what you mean, when i compose, It's like a storytelling. But i have another one for you... in Data Science... Sometimes i see Feature selection as additive synthesis or soutractive synthesis, depending how you build your model
