While large language models like GPT-3 can't do most of what humans do, let's remember that the reverse is also true: humans aren't trained to complete text from arbitrary prompts, and would do a terrible job at it for most prompts...

I can accept it as being part of a mind. Maybe a few more well structured layers and some novel architecture, some more randomness and a new emergent property of 'consciousness' can emerge.
-
And your rationale for this miracle? As a psychologist who knows AI, believe me, that’s just not how things work.

While listening to music, if we listen to smth too many times, we start to complete the next word and next word. At first I suppose we dont directly memorize the sequence but we act like LM, good at guessing the next word. That's also true for guessing the next song. Just saying

GTP3 still has no understanding what it's doing and in intellectual terms it's dumb; it's basically a very functional database. But then, does a worm 'understand' what it's doing. Probably not.
-
Now ask yourself does a human 'understand' what it's doing. More so than a worm, but fundamentally it's a different story.

Exactly, GPT-3 is a chatterbot, an amazing chatterbot but still a chatterbot.
-
Not entirely sure about that. There's speculation that the insane amount of parameters might actually allow it to generalize (make rules for its decisions) more like humans do. In any case the architecture is a lot less energy-efficient compared to brains.

Are you sure? Working not like the human mind doesn't mean it cannot be intellectual. Otherwise fix wing airplane will never fly.

Consciousness is being aware of what’s going on, I doubt we’ll achieve that artificially. At least not until we first discover the physics involved in consciousness.
