The dedication of nameless people to perfecting their craft has been as important to technological progress as the big discoveries we remember and celebrate

Interesting, could you define the concept of "nameless people" ?

Progress is non linear , Euler made a 2000 years breakthroughs . Von Neumann research is levels above all other scientists of his era . Terrence Tao today. I am a great believer in perfecting craft although there is no end for that, real progress is rare (DNN is an example)

Evariste Galois developed the field theory in math used in Reed Solomon redundancy codes to enable anything from DVDs to Satellite communication. Got himself shot in a duel in 1832 at the age of 21. Could have been Euler 2. Anyone non-math wouldnt know that

Or, as Bronowski said: ""We are all afraid for our confidence, for the future, for the world. That is the nature of the human imagination. Yet every man, every civilization, has gone forward because of its engagement with what it has set itself to do."
