Many people who learned to type on those ancient devices called "typewriters". Once your ~eighth grade typing teacher drilled it into you (mine was very strict!), it's a hard habit to shake.

I’ve always found this bizarre, given the two space system is demonstrably an ugly cludge to approximate a proper typographic solution that modern word processors do automatically. tl;dr: two spaces is simply wrong, now.
