Don't have to go that far back. My mother was an illiterate immigrant yet raised 3 sons who all went on to have a measure of success.

Oh well, my grandmother can't write and she was born here in Spain. We should be grateful and fight for our rights at all times.

Illiteracy is a reality for many in Africa today. However, many have amazing skills with their hands or problem solving for their immediate communities; finding connections, using experience, and applying themselves in a way "qualified" people could not. The mind is fascinating
