AI can be used to either alleviate the problem (e.g. spam filtering for harmful disinformation) or compound it (e.g. micro-targeting for viral news to maximize engagement). This is why we need everyone in information technology to care about ethics and act responsibly

It's also a great amplifier of pre existing power (those in power usually have access to more data, and IA can help them get even more powerful by leveraging that data).

The idea of filtering missinformation can easily lead to a much worse outcome then what such information does. The Chinese firewall is built on removing harmfull information. The Berlin wall was called the "Anti-Fascist barrier". Freedom of information means full freedom

Hard to expect all people/corporations to act ethically whose their main motive is to generate profit. Prime example in today's world being social media companies knowingly robbing the masses of their time/focus. Filling their brain with utter shit all day.
