NIMBYs would never allow it. Too fast. Would ruin character of the neighborhood. Sitting in traffic is the natural order of things cc

As an outsider who visited regularly I could never fathom why trains are so last century from SF to PA. It’s one of the stranger things I’ve seen. I’ve made it to Napa faster than to PA on many occasions.

Ueno Tokyo line is a better comparison: ~$5, 26minutes, comes every 10min, and covers more places in between & beyond. Relatively few take the Shinkansen for traveling between these two particular stations since it would cost $20+ and less frequent.
