(it gets x**k right up to k=7. for x**8 it got stuck spitting an endless stream of * x * x * x * x * x ...., and for x**9 and above it just says x * 9 )

Presumably it can handle the conversions found in the training data but it can't generalize the pattern beyond that

likely, i don't think it really has the concept of a number. but need to check more thoroughly.

but beyond the x**5 conversion, this thing is very compositional.
