I think it's more about being in the state of the flow rather than learning itself. Learning can be confusing, frustrating and uncomfortable, which is not fun. That's why people give up. Learning can be fun, but you need appropriate difficulty and interesting subject.

I wouldn't generalise like this: I most enjoy reading when I'm very fluent and I'm able to focus on the concepts not learning new words. I suspect that many would agree with me.

I think language is not the best example, I enjoy reading more when I am fluent, exactly to stay intensely concentrated on what I am about to learn around the topic.

Solving problems is what human brains enjoy the most. Imagine a world where we no longer have to think, where a machine can solve all our problems for us. An eternity of boredom for future generations. We rarely see the consequences of our actions until it is too late...
