Progress has an unfair advantage: the impact of destructive actions is bounded, but the impact of constructive actions is not. One jump forward can outweigh many steps backwards.

If ten people spit in your face, but you inspire one person, you are ahead by a mile.

What is so "unfair" about progress through constructive actions?

What if when you think you are progressing but actually you are actually regressing?

Yeah, but destruction is much easier than construction. In one evening, hundreds of years of progress may be destroyed.

Yet distroying can be easily done by many, while building and advancing require more effort and it's not within everyone's reach

Well then what makes forwards as compared to backwards. The steps which we thought took us forward perhaps will take us backward, but could those (now unproductive) steps in a similar and unwitting way induce good in the future when hindsight returns to 20/20, eg. via correction
