So many yesses for this. Countless times I've fought with a problem only to realize that a reconceptualization simplified the problem, often leading to a beautiful restructuring of that section.

I tend to agree, but in many ways conceptual and abstract tools ressemble programs : a common saying (see the xkcd) is that automating a task isn't quite worth it if building the program takes significantly more time than repeating the task many times.. 1/2

In the same way, refining and building a concept or abstraction for a task is often hard and time-consuming. In many scenarios, one should accept that abstractions are costlier than simply repeating the task ad nauseam.
