We know that COVID-19 infections leave lasting health effects in many cases. Focusing on the death rate is short-sighted: the bar needs to be higher than "didn't die". We must seek to minimize infections.

Amen! As someone who was in an early hotspot - I wish we had an outcomes index at this point. The after effects are not pretty.

I second that. That's why I was looking for studies/data on COVID sequela. This can allow for expressing the impact of COVID in terms of expected years lost (from a chronic issue developed) - or quality of years even though this is more subjectivehttps://twitter.com/kpelechrinis/status/1279907835426586624?s=20 …

Hey #epitwitter and #infectiousdiseases twitter. do you have any pointers to any (I guess preliminary at this point) studies on covid sequela?

I keep hearing this new narrative that COVID is responsible for some obscure longterm affects and it’s so scary because other illnesses don’t do anything like that. Only they can, and they do. Even the flu. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-17497-6 …

imho we also need to fully grasp how it came to pass! No political inuendos, simply the truth. In its absence we are groping in the dark. will china support this?

In the US we don’t have a NHS so it’s a cost that governments don’t really care too much about

If the stats from chronic sequels for SARSCov1 and the stories in COVID survivor forums are any indication, the outlook is not goodhttps://twitter.com/tsuname/status/1279916511629422594 …

        Pablo Cordero added,

For anyone satisfied with the "flattened" COVID death curve in the US wrt cases (an effect of Simpson's paradox BTW), consider the massive health and economic issues that will stem from chronic effects on survivors. SARSCov1 had sky high rates of chronic maladies post infection. pic.twitter.com/u01xLw68cp
