The meaning of anything derives from how it's connected to everything else in your mind. As such, *learning* is the art of creating connections between new knowledge and what you already know. The more you know, the richer and deeper the meaning of any new information you receive

A practical consequence of this is that diving into a new field should always be done breadth-first, not depth-first. You will learn faster and more effectively if you can connect new specialized information to a broad overview of your field.

Absent that broad overview, your learning of the field is stunted. Absent a broad, diverse culture, your mind itself is stunted.

This is true, but I think it can be distorted if "know" things about related topics that aren't correct and then you can see almost the opposite effect

How we derive meaning is also subject to how we define our individual reward functions, our purpose. Diverse experiences help us recursively adapt of our reward functions, don’t you think? And depending on our renewed purpose, our learning rate is re-adjusted.

I wonder does prior knowledge impact/influence learning or ability to learn.

these "second-order-differences" are what we use to remind ourselves of other problems we already know how to solve. this is called "reasoning by analogy" and considered to be an unusual way to solve problems. in my view, it's our most ordinary way of doing things — Minsky, 1988

One would assume that the architecture of our brain also imposes a limit on how much knew knowledge we can absorb without getting overloaded and malfunction ?
