The gravity of the epidemic situation in the US can't be overstated. Exponential growth is resuming. We're going to need a serious policy chance. The good news: dozens of countries have been able to stop COVID -- we know what works. We can just do it. Too bad we didn't in March.
What works: 1. Universal mask wearing 2. Complete, strictly enforced lockdown until cases drop to a manageable level. No reopening until then 3. Contact tracing after reopening
1 won't happen because our leaders have turned hygiene into a political wedge. 2 won't happen because we didn't pass a large enough somos package at the outset and now businesses will force the issue. 3 won't happen because it's already gotten out of hand.
