It's interesting how the most anticipated sci-fi releases of 2020/2021 are adaptations of Dune (from 1965) and Foundation (from the 1950s)

Our time is as far away from these books as 2080 is to us (a full 30 years after the Singularity, according to true believers). Is sci-fi dead?

maybe it's just harder for sci-fi stories to bloom into the cultural consciousness in the modern media environment then it was back then so more people just know more about old stories than new ones.

Well, the Expanse was pretty good. But, yeah.

no, script writers are not current on a lot of the v good contemporary stuff and producers want well known material to pul in audiences not more recent stuff

Blindsight, Altered Carbon, Three Body Problem. I hear where you're coming from but I can't agree. Side note: every Vernor Vinge book needs to be a movie yesterday. Same for Niven and Pohl. These mines are totally untapped.

I'd love to see HBO or similar take on Hyperion, Stranger in a Strange Land, or Transmetropolitan.

Although Nolan’s stuff people aren’t as warm to for whatever reason. I thought Interstellar was fantastic.
