        What's the solution here? I fall into this trap often. Feels like at a certain point "building it" is necessary to get to the next level of understanding.

        Yes. Because the solution usually has an edge case bugs. Even in small programs we still make edge case bugs. So how can you know your solution will work without bugs before implementing it? Maybe the whole bug thing will force you to rethink your solution altogether.
