In your opinion, will the US experience deliberate Internet blackouts (ordered by the state) before the end of the year?

Internet blackouts are a natural next step when authoritarian regimes are faced with widespread social unrest that official propaganda channels can't contain -- alongside sending in the troops. This is really asking "do you think the US will follow the remainder of the playbook"

I personally don't think it's likely, maybe 25% chance at most. But it's within the range of possible events one should consider

The US is a country where the govt has less control over the country than elsewhere. I don't think that internet blackouts are realistic.

Probably. And, SVP, is DJT similar to one of France's 19th century leaders? You would know better than me. Merci et bonne chance.

Are you referring to this guy? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon_III … there are similarities, but at least he did get through infrastructure week

Doubt a full blackout would happen in the US, but only because it is the primary tool for surveillance, propaganda, and advertising revenues for the companies supporting those systems.

The US is so good at spinning the narrative that unlike China, they don't need the censorship. Slavery. Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Drone strikes. Guantanamo. And yet, Americans think they are the greatest country in the world.

In fact, TV and Internet are *necessary* in times of crises for such a soft power regime. How can you lie and amplify without the medium to do so?

What do you think about many of the US big tech companies being complicit in organizing some form of blackouts in China? https://www.theverge.com/2018/11/2/18053142/china-internet-privacy-censorship-apple-microsoft-google-democracy-report …
