I assumed that plot was meant to emphasize the existing trend, not make a predictive estimation... but who knows...
You can't just fit an ad hoc polynomial function to all the points you have so far and use it to make predictions about the future. Even machine learning isn't that dumb

When they said "flatten the curve", they should have said "flatten the first
#derivative of the curve"... but people in the US don't learn math in school, I guess.. -
To be fair: I know school teachers in Germany who don't understand "exponential" either, really... It is inherently a difficult concept to fully understand, I think. Think about ANYTHING that grows exponentially forever, and tell me if it is a good thing?
