If you think "people dying from lack of economic growth" is the real problem, you don't have to sacrifice the elderly as a solution, you could simply start supporting pro-worker politicians and policies.

The argument "we should reopen and let the weak die because people are losing their income from the lockdown and that will cause more deaths" amazes me. In normal countries, you don't die from temporary (or even permanent) loss of income. You get checks from your government.

What you're really saying with this argument is "the society we've built for ourselves is more ruthless and deadly than a pandemic" Having to stop working for a while (or working from home) should not be considered worse than catching a deadly virus

It's not complicated: money printer go brrrrr. Yes, there are long-run costs. No, they aren't worse than uncontrolled spread and overflowing morgues due to reopening the economy.

It really does frustrate me that people don't get that they wouldn't NEED to work during a global pandemic if we had competent government assistance. Or even a congress that cares at the rate they're going with these bills.

Greatest country in the world can't take a break for a month. Fragile culture of debt and living paycheck to paycheck. I feel for people that don't have a choice... But so many brought it on themselves.

Takes 20 days to get the check. Government is slow. Meanwhile, people have to eat. Also, it's a false dichotomy. You can reopen AND mitigate spread of disease.

Yes, I also think it's a false dichotomy. Furthermore, a crisis in US usually has a ripple effect on other countries. That said, Sweden didn't even have a lockdown and is doing about as fine as US. Reasonable reopening will not be a problem.
