When we reach ~5 billion total cases we'll finally have herd immunity globally. We're at 3 million confirmed now, perhaps a few tens of millions in total. Almost there Just kidding, by then the virus will have mutated

There are also no facts yet about immunity after having had covid-19, let alone how long the immunity will last. There are doubts however, meaning people might get sick multiple times, even without mutations...

Not only is herd immunity a strategy -- it is the only feasible strategy available. You might not care, sitting in your cushy office still getting a paycheck, but millions of people are suffering and dying, but eventually continuing to kill this economy will impact you too.

Your math is wrong. With IFR around 0.2%, more than 110M people are infected. And yes some places on earth have >20% infected people. The future may prove us wrong...

Where are you getting 0.2%? It's already 1% in NYC and that's with a relatively young population with low obesity levels (compared to the rest of the US) It was 2% on the Diamond Princess, admittedly an older demographic closer to that of Maine/New Hampshire/Vermont

I'm so glad that we have so qualified ML people turned medical doctors here on Twitter who clearly has done so much research on a topic on which we have so much good evidence. (to pre empt: I only have opinions on mask coz we have good evidence there)

Nor possible. Can't think of a single viral infection where herd immunity was achieved without a vaccine, not even Polio with an R0 of 5.7, a 95% asymptomatic rate and an IFR of about 0.2%
