The thing about armchair epidemiologists is this: it doesn't take tons of knowledge & expertise to see through the obvious lies we've been fed for the past 3 months. It only takes common sense. Telling people who are simply exercising common sense to shut up is not a good look.

Which lies in particular are you referring to? There's been so many lately it's hard to keep track lol

One issue that confuses me is what’s the goal of “flattening the curve” - is it a measure to give the healthcare system a breather or is it a way to reduce the total number of infections? If it’s the latter, we’re still going to end up with tens of millions dead (worldwide)

The former. Had things been business as usual, many more hospitals might have run at/over capacity (see CN, IT, SP, NY), resulting in more deaths. For all we know the virus will stick around (anyone might eventually catch it), but hopefully mitigated by better treatment/vaccines.

I mostly agree w/ you, but "common sense" can change: Public wearing masks is bad → wear masks! Virus spread as droplets → Can also linger in air Test won't work w/out symptoms → Now can get test for asymptomatic carrier Sometimes hard to tell past lie from new knowledge

The three first ones were never "knowledge"… (btw, for sure, virus spread mainly as droplets, and not only so. Was and remains true).

There should be a burden of evidence when you engage a large audience on a topic with direct life-or-death impact. "Common sense" cuts it for spotting inaccuracies and demanding corrections/better information, it doesn't cut it for prescriptive claims ("we should do X!").

Can't say it better. It's on my mind for about a month now. R0 is wrong. IFR were wrong. 14 days is a myth. Masks. And the best is yet to come : symptoms! Laughable.

R0 is a measure. It can't be wrong just like the concept of inches or minutes can't be wrong. A specific measure can vary depending on circumstances. To me, your tweet makes no sense.
