You can't hope to get things back to "normal" by reopening. Reopening means a second wave of infections, which means consumers will stay home independently of whether retail & restaurants are open. There's no way out by executive order. The only way out is test & trace at scale

I think the main problem is people's ignorance in this virus. Many people will still go out because they want to be convinient. They are not looking at the big picture.

There was this NPR podcast in March where top economists said “reopening” vs “containment” was a false dichotomy. The only way economy can be saved is by containment. Else people will self isolate even after you officially “reopen” (esp. restaurants etc.)

Its the lack of response/plan, both timely and financially. There is no fed plan. The only consideration by the WH seemingly has been how to extract or reduce political liability.

I just don't see how one can conduct any business with no social contact. I can't imagine 5 million people getting a swap up their nose or throat daily in the US even if the testing kits were available. Men over 40 get one prostate exam a year & that's enough.

I think the policy wonks know this and have properly advised the politicians, but the politicians have handled it to varying degrees. Some take it seriously others are just allowing a resurgence to happen. This is why I fully believe there will be a second wave.
