Apparently many journalists believe, implicitly or explicitly, that part of their job is to reassure the public. "Everything will be okay, the show must go on".

Whether any media reassures or disorients someone depends heavily on the person, eg. what this person sees on the Job, which people he meets, insider infos from some field, access to primary research and having the time to read all of it.

Not sure we can rely on traditional outlets as we used to. This is part of fallout of business model disruption of newspapers for instance.
