I agree on all counts but the last. I would change the word ‘perplexing’ out with ‘terrifying’ and I think it makes complete sense.

It is herd nature to deny anything that questions their pre-existing beliefs , because to be open to new ideas requires work by questioning the obvious and taking stand. That is hardwork and people dont want hardwork , and would believe anyone who reinforces their view.
