Antimask = antivax lite. Masks may not be perfect, but they give you some basic level of protection, and most importantly they protect others from you if you're a carrier (knowingly or not). Wear masks if you have them.

"But by wearing masks we will create a shortage!" The antimask propaganda was at its peak a month before the epidemic got serious in the US, back when we should have ramped up mask production and encouraged everyone to wear them. The shortage is in part caused by this movement.

Indeed, while start a massive manufacturing mobilization effort well in advance in order to produce a commodity that all official channels are claiming to be useless?

In Boston Partner's Hospitals are starting a universal masking policy starting Monday. But N95 & airborne precautions for intubation need to be reserved for frontline doctors. Creative ppe like full face snorkel & other reusable masks should be getting more attention.

I agree with U in general. The main benefit is likely on a public health level, to decrease spread; the infected person wearing a mask is a less efficient spreader. True for influenza also. But with some healthcare workers not even having simple surgical masks, people should DIY/
