I totally buy that it’s worth sacrificing the economy to safe many lives, and I hope this argument carries over to car crashes and climate change as well

Yes I 100% agree and this makes the argument even stronger

'Larger human and economic cost in future' - this applies to climate change. With the pandemic, the human loss is immediate whereas the economic gains are at risk if the causal virus is still out there.

It's not so easy. Unemployment, for example, has a direct impact on longevity and other health issues. So does poverty.

Unemployment for 2/3 months shouldn't create that much issue as losing relatives

i think what's irking most people is that no one can really answer the question: 'how long?'... some openly admit/object that it'll take long months... some even question the efficacy of this (i'm sure you read john ioannidis' opinion).

We'll both ok. But putting helicopter money and trillions of dollars into the market will bring high inflation and possibly the part collapse of the financial system. This is not a demand creating situation. So unemployment in the US might go up to 30%. We need balanced measures.

Do we really think that people would show up to work if virus was running free? I think leaders have to do a controlled shut down or risk an chaotic melt down when people refuse to show up for essential work when virus hits high levels of infection.
