"profit over lives" was always there -- in the fight against universal health insurance, in the destruction of social safety nets, in the refusal to do anything about climate change. But it's never been spelled out as explicitly as it is now
They don't literally mean "economic growth is worth more than human lives", by the way. They mean "my lifestyle fueled by stock market gains matters more other people's lives". It's a case of "me over you".
I mean -- how many of these folks would be willing to sacrifice *their* lives to "save the economy"? They think their money will save them.

Of course you have a point but if millions of people loose their jobs and have no income they will suffer and it will lead to massive social unrest. It can become a danger to the democratic system.
