Out of curiosity, why the perception that chemistry isn't usually cool? Was it a particular experience with it or is there a feeling that the material is too dry and/or buried on the other side of a steep learning curve?

I never understand what's wrong with just quinine. You can buy it at the grocery store in tonic water. Sure the dose is low, but even light efficacy seems important for prophylaxis.
