When interviewing, don't test for specialized knowledge or skills that can be easily acquired. Best way to filter out good candidates. Test for broad abilities & experience. For the faculty to understand & solve a problem. For skills & ways of thinking that take years to acquire

We use it for all candidates. It's an excellent pulse check to see if the candidate has "just the ability to program" at a basic level but not terribly informative beyond that.

"_just_ the ability yo program" ? What's that? As in, far from being clear cut or not easily misinterpreted...

I like what I say and for an interview very sensible. But what about the steps prior to this? With a sample of 100s or 1000s candidates, a signal is inferred from what is readily measurable. The same skewed filters you talk of seem to appear somewhere in the pipeline?

Exactly. Hire strong athletes you can train for the position you need. Over time you can retrain the same person to take on other positions. Another benefit of this approach is that your team will not dependent on one or two people. Virtually everyone can play anywhere.

How do you test trainibility? How do you test reliability and dependability?
