ML represents a powerful set of machine perception affordances that until recently didn't exist. Utilize them. Much like computers in the 80s & 90s, it's not there to replace you, it's there to help you do your job better and at an increased scale.

The effects are a priori ambiguous. The r/economics FAQ on automation goes over the specific example of radiologists: https://www.reddit.com/r/Economics/wiki/faq_automation … Disclaimer: I wrote the FAQ.

As long as doctors are in the loop, I don't see cost of care is coming down! In fact, I suspect it goes up because now they are using more technology to reduce the error! There is basically no reason for a radiologist to make a few ~300K to ~1M!

@fchollet - thank you for the insightful comment. To add: a physician’s responsibility is to care for the patient. Technologies - CT, MRI, ML - are mechanisms to accomplish this goal. No technology will replace those who take on the burden and the joy of caring for others.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
