Can't get to simple without going through the stage of doing clever stuff. 
A while ago, I thought doing things in a clever way was cool. Now, I understand that simple is better than clever. Clever is mostly showing off.

Simple is the real clever. Anyone can make things complex which no one can understand. Simpler things can be understood by everyone, but everyone can't make things simpler.

I had to try all sorts of "clever" solutions until I was experienced enough to realize what "simple" even is. "Clever" is what I can *do* now. "Simple" is what I can *understand* now AND the future... Plus, what *other* folks can understand now & in the future.
