I think we tend to overestimate the importance of reciprocity -- a transactional mindset -- and underestimate the power of kindness. Even the smallest acts of kindness can change lives. None of the most important things in life are transactional.

Yes, expectations are the surest way to disappointment. However, I find it difficult to unlearn personally. I am making progress, but it's really difficult to operate in a life of no reciprocity, don't you think? :)
