One of my favourite Swedish proverbs is "Välij dina krig", which means "Choose your battles"

The ongoing catastrophe is that the risk of nuclear annihilation has not been reduced in the post-coldwar era. No bottles should be saved when humanity faces non-negligible, annual risk of civilizational collapse.

In the end it bores down to the logic behind your judgement. It doesn't really matter if its trivial at all. In fact great people have fallen because of underestimation. It really doesn't matter if you're serious just deal with it without a bias.

I'm sure at some point in history scientists didn't know that DNA held so much data. Especially when something seems trivial, you should investigate as you proceed with other things. Time will tell if its trivial or not.

The challenge here is the ability to determine what's trivial and what should be taken seriously. In the moment the most trivial things can seem important. Building that perspective takes practice, patience, and reflection
