Do you really think the tweets mocking the Peloton commercial are taking oxygen from the people fighting climate change? Just a few weeks ago millions of people around the world marched for the latter. That's obviously not going to happen with Peloton. It's just a release valve.

I always wonder: as beings evolved for groups of < 150 people, how can we integrate all the information from all the other ~ 2 billion active people on the internet? Bubbles and silos seem to be working. But they do not correctly represent the relative importance of issues.

This completely baffles me. Glad someone else agrees. #ClimateCrisis is an existential threat to civilization. Why / how do we even talk about anything else?

One hypothesis is that our outrage about these small things are actually 'impotent rage' that we aren't able to do anything about the big things! So, sort of lashing out, as children do sometimes!

One thing that would help IMHO is to move away from the blame mentality of "people are stupid". We need to acknowledge our weaknesses and blind spots, and design systems that account for them and protect us, instead of taking advantage of us.
