It's entertainment. It is to AI research what a David Copperfield show in Vegas is to experimental physics. It's fun, but don't portray it as science.

If you're a research lab, you probably don't want to be known for prestidigitation tricks being passed of as breakthroughs in media written for the scientifically illiterate. Honestly, it's just sad, I can't even understand the logic behind it

I don't think this is skepticism, he is talking about what the model is and what is not. If you look at some of those answers, you can understand that it is just reflecting what people have written online about AI, but it misleads layman into thinking it is some cognitive model.
