That's the thing about climate change. It will require adaptation of a large magnitude over a short time span. The human species will do fine. We are incredibly adaptable. It's civilization I'm worried about. It relies on a fragile network of millions of interdependent pieces.https://twitter.com/longnow/status/1196126353419984896 …

There's not going to be a 'fix' for climate change, says science journalist @JeffGoodell. There will only be adaptations. pic.twitter.com/HQs38GUiF0

It will have to move towards a new equilibrium state, and we might not like what's in it.

You could say that modern civilization is a chaotic system, due to its numerous feedback loops and incredible complexity. Relatively small stressors can have large ripple effects. And climate change is a very large stressor. We simply don't know how the system will react.

The human species might do fine, but millions and millions will suffer. Then add the animals.

Yes...and the animals. I watch the young squirrels and birds at my feeder this year, born late in an unseasonably long summer/autumn, who are now coping with the sudden, record breaking onset of winter in eastern Canada. Anecdotal, yes. Unreal? No.

Do you live near the sea? I do. And we have had 3 consecutive years of floodings. It destroys the way we have lived for centuries and it's not ok. Gradual natural changes are unavoidable but this man made mess is not ok and must be stopped.

adaptation seems to be cheaper to accomplish than preventing climate change. free market will adapt and costs will be absorbed and allocated proportionally to the exposure to climate risk
