In the long term trust is the only currency. Any sort of misrepresentation of reality undermines the trust of those who can see it for what it is. It should be pretty basic stuff: know your audience

It's unfair to the researchers if your communication's result is much of discussion was spent countering over-claiming, rather than on congratulating achievement, discussing limitations &c It's also harmful in that misapprehensions on capability can lead to misguided policy
