This norm is infuriating. I can't imagine labor ever having more leverage than tech labor and it still happens. Specialization is no match for a defacto caste system.

I am sure the employees knew the risk reward profile of a startup that only pays with stock options, cash is king. This happens over and over in the Silicon Valley at smaller startups it is so common it doesn’t even make the news. Still is very sad.
