Build dense housing and a proper rail network. Bring back the water bottles (and recycle them after use -- I know, what an alien idea)

Recycling is not always a sustainabile solution. Most things that say they can be recycled are tossed into the landfill unfortunately. (source: NPR podcast on the birth recycling)
