The Bay Area is this weird mixture of large-scale environmental destruction (through terrible urbanism and obsolete/inexistent infrastructure) and performative environmentalism (e.g. plastic bottle ban at SFO)

Build dense housing and a proper rail network. Bring back the water bottles (and recycle them after use -- I know, what an alien idea)

You might want to try moving to another area if you want total performative environmentalism like Portland, Austin, or Denver. #USA1 42 #NWO 99>1pic.twitter.com/GlurYeUi2Z

Thought the same since my first trip the bay, especially wrt inexistent infrastructure. I think it will ultimately converge (towards perf 😄)

There’s a lot of terrible land use and lack of infrastructure in America. SF has seen ~ 40% reduction in CO2 per capita, despite a growing population since 1995 (as per GPC), which puts us almost 75% below US averages (which isn’t saying much, I know), right in line with NYC.

Transportation and housing make up a combined almost 90% of our emissions, though buildings have experienced an almost 50% reductions since 1990, while transportation is essentially flat. A major initiative for transportation is hugely overdue and totally lacking in vision.

I'll tell you what else is a wierd Bay area mixture..walking down Leavenworth St, in the Tenderloin and seeing someone shooting up crack or crystal meth..and then walking down the opulence of Market Street towards the Ferry Building..Now that's some wierd, disconcerting mixture.
